Paradise In Essex CT

If you’re familiar with The Village of Essex CT, you know that this stretch of town is quintessential New England. Historic, charming, and absolutely beautiful! It’s the perfect setting for this project, one that is quintessential Saybrook Country Barn. We were lucky enough to have one of our amazing customers share their home with everyone. All the furniture and decorating you see in these photos was designed by our very own Jackie O.

 

Through out this home you’ll find several gathering places. Spaces that encourage relaxation and conversation with friends and family. Notice the many seating areas, the conversational floor plans, and the tasteful use of color and texture to make each room inviting in its own special way.

Kitchen & Living Room

The first space you experience is this open kitchen and living area. This house has an incredible flow to it, (and an incredible view!) This space needed to be welcoming and inviting right away. With plenty of seating to relax and enjoy the view, you can see that Jackie made great use of the space, perfect for entertaining and conversation. Since this is a waterfront home the settee is upholstered in durable Sunbrella Fabric. Notice the herringbone pattern, performance fabrics are more fashion forward than ever! you don’t have to give up style for performance!

Dining Room

This is a beautiful Amish made draw leaf table with ladder back chairs. While the piece is incredibly light and clean, the wood top brings a rich, lovely texture to the table. (pun alert!) Combined with the bronze spiral chandelier, hand-knotted rug, and hand painted Italian buffet, this room immediately invites you to relax and engage. Clean, warm, luxurious feeling that enhances without distracting.

Fireplace Seating Area

As part of the open dining space, this seating area is perfect for chatting after dinner, Custom upholstered chairs and love seat surround an oval cocktail table on a hand-knotted oriental rug.

Entertainment Room

Here we have a very comfortable entertainment room, with a custom yellow/gold sectional sofa with custom throw pillows, leather ottoman cocktail table, and green accents. All the textures and colors completely wrap you in warmth. The perfect place to curl up for a movie night!

Patio and Pool Area

When the CT River is your backyard, you are going to want your outside experience to be just as welcoming and comfortable as your inside. Here we have 100% recycled poly-lumber patio furniture with custom made outdoor cushions. Everything here is made to withstand all the New England weather you can throw at it! The material is solid color through out, so it never needs painting and is amazingly resistant to scratches. This is the real deal! Very sharp looking and built to last!

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom has an amazing view! Over looking the water with tons of natural light this bedroom is all about enjoying the view! with light sage green main color palette, Calm is the name of the game. Custom Hunter Douglas Window Shades help control light and privacy. The whole room is tied together by the custom upholstery and pillows sharing the same pattern.

Guest Bedroom

Another relaxing bedroom, this time with coral colors through out. An attractive and functional storage bed help maximize the space.

Basement Level Recreation Room

Coming in off the patio is the Recreation room. A cozy casual space designed to be relaxing and great for games and entertaining, with two seating areas, hand Knotted rugs through out, and custom upholstered bench cushions, this Is the perfect spot to take the party inside!

Throughout the entire house you’ll notice a beautiful collection of one-of-a-king hand knotted oriental and persian rugs and custom cut and wall-to-wall carpeting and stair runner.

Lisa has 15+ years experience in event planning and decorating. She has studied Business Management at Three Rivers Community College. For the last 8-9 years she has developed a diverse background in floral design, custom window treatments, kitchen & bath design, and whole room interior design. Lisa has worked closely with architects, landscapers and builders in the development of new and existing homes and businesses. She participated in the “2004 Show-House Tour” for dining room design, to benefit the S.E.CT Children’s Museum. Lisa is inspired by color, architectural design elements, a love for the outdoors,and family. She describes her design style as “eclectic cottage with a whimsical feel, bringing the outdoors in.” Lisa’s decorating philosophy is; “I believe that your home should reflect who you are by incorporating color & accessories that match your personality, as well as furniture for how you live. But leave room for a little creativity and fun!”

Lauri comes to SCB with over 15 years of experience. She has been coordinating window treatments and custom bedding for designers along the East Cost as far south as Atlanta, GA including CEO’s office on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC. Lauri Has a BA from Geneva College with a Double Major in Management Science and Business Administration. Upon graduation Lauri began working for IBM as a product planner. Her position gave her a wide variety of coordinating projects which would later add to her comfort level when working with her design clients. After the birth of her first child, She left IBM and started making custom window treatments full time, using her fashion and design skills from the past. She started her own window treatment and bedding business in Atlanta, GA in 1995. Lauri and her Husband, along with their three children relocated to the CT shoreline in 1997 where she continued on with her custom window treatment and bedding endeavors. Lauri is inspired by color and the personal interests of each individual client. “I gather as much input as possible from them. It is their space and I want it to reflect them, not me the designer. I have a significant portfolio as well as a vast collection of design room scenario photos to help them determine the direction they would like to go with their project.” Lauri’s Design Philosphy: Uniqueness for each customer, Lauri never suggests the same application over and over to make her job easier. Each project is “Totally, to the “T”, custom for each individual client.”

Karen brings over 26 years of knowledge, experience and personality to the window treatment industry. Her talent provides an immeasurable skill set, from bedding and bath, custom, semi custom and ready- made window treatments, along with accurate measuring, fabrication and installation strength. She is a certified Hunter Douglas professional installer, as well as a certified Hunter Douglas professional dealer. Karen has many goals and sets out to accomplish them every day. One of her goals is to always listen to the customer, with the ability to strategize and accomplish a well-designed and fabricated application. Karen’s highest goal priority is, 100% satisfaction with her customers. Creative passions, perfection, inspirational ideas and individuality, all define Karen!

Jackie attended Saint Michael’s College and comes to Saybrook Country Barn with over 20 years experience in the furniture industry. She has Attended the North Carolina Furniture Market for over twenty years and has designed homes throughout New England and New York City. As a buyer, merchandiser, designer and manager for 15 years at two showroom locations in Vermont, and 8 years at a showroom in the Berkshires, Jackie brings a wealth of furniture expertise to the customer experience. She enjoys working with bright, airy rooms with a clean but lived in look. The concept of clean crisp tones and textures combined with old looking wood items. “It’s important to have my clients relax in their home in comfort. I aspire to connect and adhere to the clients needs combined with my creativity and experience to have a successful outcome.”

Meet Jackie O

Diana graduated from Miami University, Oxford Ohio with a B.S. in Marketing and has a Certificate in Interior Design from Rhode Island School of Design. After a career in the insurance business, she has worked in residential interior design the last 15 years, having been associated with several small boutique design firms prior to joining Saybrook Country Barn. She has participated in three Show houses for local charities, and has written numerous articles on decorating for several shoreline publications. Her personal design philosophy is to invest in classic basics that will stand the test of time, and can be adapted to individual changes in taste and new trends. She also likes to integrate interesting color and pattern combinations in her projects, as well as mixing different styles, both old and new, for an eclectic look. The best part of being in this business is seeing that end goal come to fruition and helping a customer attain a comfortable home that reflects their own individual taste and lifestyle.

Molly has a BA in communications from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has been in the business for over 20 years. For the last three years Molly has worked with the RI Design Center. Before that, she ran her own company while raising three children. Many of Molly’s projects include residences along the Eastern shoreline, From NYC to Rhode Island, all the way down to St. Thomas  US Virgin Islands. Molly was also key in helping to design the 2005 Show house for the Junior League of Hartford. She is always delighted to meet clients and create a harmonious environment for them.  “My ultimate goal is to help the home owner bring their own vision to fruition while making the process fun and inspiring!”  Molly’s design style is casually elegant and transitional. She is drawn to saturated color, interesting textures and architecturally interesting furniture, but can work with any design style specified.
