It’s time we expect more from our furniture. Sure it looks nice, but does it chop onions?
Ok, maybe our furniture won’t ever chop onions, but let's face it, we all juggle a lot! Between work, family, school and sports; competing with our smart phones telling us we have 40 unread emails, 3 declining stocks in our portfolio, 10 upcoming appointments, and 6 people on Facebook we need to poke a happy birthday too, we have more than enough on our plate!
Is it so much to ask that our furniture choices bear some of the load? Perhaps we can look to our furniture and our homes to make our lives just a little less chaotic! When approaching a room design, two things we all want to do are maximize our space and more importantly our dollars. Depending on your style and space “multitaskers” can really help ratchet up the functionality of your home and provide a great ‘two-for-one’ value. This is particularly true in smaller spaces where it’s really important to make the most of the space you have.
How about a slant back desk? This can double as laptop desk and a storage chest. These are great because of their relatively small footprint and timeless style.
Perhaps using a storage trunk as a coffee table. Trunks provide excellent storage for bulky blankets and pillows while giving you an attractive place to set down your drink after a hard days work!
If you have a desk in your living space, try using a small occasional chair as a desk chair. When you are entertaining company, the extra seat can be easily transitioned into your room layout.
Maybe you prefer to use your desk in a more quiet and relaxing setting. Think about using a beautiful writing desk next to your bed that can also be used as a nightstand.
